⚡ Quick Answer
Download and install
Grab the installer for your system from our download page (Windows, macOS, or Linux — all free). Run it, and Pomotroid opens as a small, clean window. No account, no sign-up, no setup wizard.
Run your first Pomodoro
Click the big start button. Pomotroid counts down 25 minutes (the classic Pomodoro), then plays a sound and switches to a 5-minute break automatically. After four focus sessions, you get a longer 15-minute break. That’s the entire technique — you already know how to use it.
Customize your intervals
Open Settings (the gear icon) to change focus length, short break, and long break durations. Beginners should keep 25/5 for at least a week. If 25 minutes feels too long, try 15-minute sessions; if you’re experienced, 50/10 works well for deep work.
Pick a theme and enable mini mode
Pomotroid ships with 20+ community themes (Dracula, Nord, Tokyo Night and more) — switch from Settings. Turn on Always on Top to keep the timer visible over your work, or shrink it to mini mode for a tiny floating countdown.
Learn the keyboard shortcuts
You can start, pause, and reset the timer without touching the mouse. Check the shortcuts list in Settings and pick the two or three you’ll actually use — start/pause and reset cover 95% of daily use.
Pro tips for your first week
- One task per session. Before starting the timer, write down the single task you’ll work on. Pomotroid has no task list — pair it with Todoist if you want tasks and timer side by side.
- Respect the break. Stand up, look away from the screen, get water. The break is part of the technique, not optional.
- Don’t customize on day one. Run the defaults for a week. Tweak intervals only after you know your natural rhythm.
- Use the tick sound. The optional ticking sound keeps your brain anchored to the session — many users swear by it.
