How to Install on Windows 10/11

  1. Download: Click the button to download the .exe installer.
  2. Run Installer: Double-click the file. Windows SmartScreen might pop up since the developer certificate is self-signed.
  3. Bypass SmartScreen: If prompted, click “More info” and then “Run anyway”. This is safe as long as you downloaded from our link (GitHub).
  4. Launch: Once installed, Pomotroid will open automatically. You can pin it to your taskbar for quick access.

Note: Pomotroid does not support Windows 7 or 8 natively. It is optimized for Windows 10 and 11.

Pomotroid is built for Intel architecture. You may be prompted to install Rosetta 2 to run it. This is normal and safe.

“App Can’t Be Opened”? Read This.

Because this is free open-source software, the developer did not pay Apple for a certificate. macOS may block it by default.

How to Bypass the Warning:

  1. Move Pomotroid to your Applications folder.
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) the app icon.
  3. Select Open from the context menu.
  4. A dialog will appear saying it’s from an unidentified developer. Click Open again. You only need to do this once.

How to Run (.AppImage)

AppImage files are portable applications that run on most Linux distributions without installation.

# 1. Make the file executable
chmod +x pomotroid-0.13.0.AppImage
# 2. Run the application
./pomotroid-0.13.0.AppImage

Tip: You can also right-click the file, go to Properties > Permissions, and check “Allow executing file as program”.

⚠️ Why does my browser say “File is not commonly downloaded”? +

This is a standard security warning from Chrome or Edge for open-source software that hasn’t paid for a costly enterprise signing certificate.

The Fix: Click the arrow next to the warning, select “Keep” or “More actions > Keep anyway”. The file is hosted directly on GitHub and is safe.

🍎 macOS says “App is damaged and can’t be opened” +

This is caused by Apple’s Gatekeeper security feature quarantining the app. It does not mean the file is actually corrupt.

xattr -cr /Applications/Pomotroid.app

The Fix: Open your Terminal app, paste the command above, and hit Enter. This removes the quarantine flag and allows the app to launch.

💻 Can I install via Command Line (Winget / Homebrew)? +

Yes, Pomotroid is available in popular package managers maintained by the community.
